EVOLUTION OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND PERFORMING PRAXIS
Ever since the beginning of educational activities in Villa Bossi, the main subject we have been dealing with has been about the relationship between historical and modern instruments, together with the study of the performing praxis of the past compared to what we do in our days.
This type of work implies to have many musical instruments available, of different type and style, either original ones or replicas in order to put in practice and understand the way of approaching instrument which are so diverse in the construction, in the touch and sound, each one with its own specific character, each one suggesting a particular way of playing. For this reason, we decided many years ago to build with a white collection of historical instruments which could well represent the evolution along the past three centuries. We would like our students to gain a strong background and build a personal culture on a subject that will be a distinguishing factor between musicians who just dispose of a good technique and those who have included in their studies the added value of and the standing and playing the very instruments that the great composers were working with.
